Default Plug off crossover w/ decatted header

What do y’all think? Currently running stage 1 big sucker, zombie baffles, and decatted head pipe and powervision. Thinking out plugging off crossover to make it a 2-1 header. I’ve read a few things saying it would be ok since it’s a pretty straight through muffler. Any new thoughts?

Not saying it won't work but a true 2-into-1 is engineered in a certain way to maximize flow. The spacing between where the 2 individual headers enter the collector is critical to the design as well as the location of the diameter transition. The outflow of exhaust from one cylinder firing helps to draw the exhaust from the other cylinder and it's that scavenging effect that allows a 2-into-1 to flow well when properly designed. You may not get that effect by just closing off the crossover since the pipe was designed with its particular geometry in mind.

This can be done. Will it be as beneficial as a true 2 into 1. Likely not. Both bassani and khrome werks make kits for this application.

Been thinking of this for a while. I run stock mufflers, stock air cleaner from a '19 sport glide, and a decatted head pipe with no tuner. The bike run great; the plugs are fine, a solid 46.5 MPG (on the two lanes), and no pinging/knocking/ or backfiring. I used a 1 5/8" freeze plug ( that I left in the freezer over night) and it tapped in easily; I did have to use an expansion tool for the cross over pipe to make it easier to put back on (I do this any time I pull an exhaust apart, just goes back together easier) . And then tightened the clamp. Took it for a 20 mile ride and the butt dyno feels like a tad bit more jump at the hit of the throttle but very rideable and the exhaust note seems about the same. I'll go for a longer ride in a few days (damn house still hasn't learned how to remodel itself) and check the plugs & mileage, and such. But so far so good.

Well that didn't work as well as I initially thought; took it out for a 100 + mile ride and it really felt sluggish and lacking in power between 2K and 3K (especially when passing a car. The exhaust note when under power wasn't the same either (sounded labored) All most likely due to the stock mufflers & baffles. So, tomorrow I'll pull it apart and remove the plug; but I'm glad I tried so now I know. And at least I didn't weld the plug in.

yea that’s the thing, the stock mufflers are designed to work with the crossover. I’m running a zombie baffle so I have more flow. It’s been raining all week. Soooo I haven’t had time to run it. Sounds good though.
