I think I left it off my outer primary when I had it powder coated. I bought another outer primary and it came without it and I didn't transfer it from my outer primary. Haven't missed it. Like you, when I get around to removing the outer primary I will install it.

Dampener = something that dampens vibration.
Well, other than getting it backwards, you are right...

The part is a damper. It damps vibration.

It`s a technical forum, so I`ll nitpick...

Balancer and Damper are not the same thing.

And a Dampener is something that makes something damp...

So I don't know if a harmonic balancer and dampener can be considered the same thing, but a damper is a device to control the flow in a ventilation system.

After looking at Webster's dictionary, both Damper and Dampener are nouns. They both mean basically the same thing, something that damps or depresses. Damper is the only one that mentions a moveable plate for regulating draft in a ventilation system.
Dampen, which is a verb as is damp, can also refer to making something moist, but it also means to dull or deaden. So it looks like they are interchangeable. I stand somewhat corrected.
