Default Spark plugs loose? Yes

After reading numerous posts about spark plugs that weren’t tight from the factory, I decided to pull the tank and check. Sure enough the two up top were only finger tight. They could be removed without any torque.
Thanks to all who shared this here. 👍

I will take a look at my plugs, are they on the top or under the bike.

One of the dumbest things harley ever did was put plugs under tank. Its routine maintenance turned into advance maintenance. Would be like having to remove a altenator to get to your oil filter on a truck. But its the price we have to pay to run a m8.

no $h!t..stupid, they'd sell twice as many spark plugs too if they made it more DIY friendly

Yep, 4 bolts, a quick connect fuel line, a couple electrical plugs, and a vent tube or two shoves it way past the comfort zone of many. That is some major advanced maintenance there now. Kinda like putting brakes on your car.

Ohh, all 4 of my plugs were tight.

i've made that mistake in the past ,once it ran rough, other time blew all the way out, had to ride to safety on one plug and it was not too bad,bit surprising.
now with 4 plugs all you might notice is your getting 58 mpg?

I R&R engines so removing the tank is no big deal. But, every time you R&R the tank you run the risk of cutting/pinching the o-rings on the connector and causing a leak, not to mention it's a chance to drop or damage the tank. More importantly, that means the plugs under the tank will only be inspected/observed with long intervals in between. No one is going to remove the tank to inspect for tightness on a regular basis. Too lose and the threads just may come out with the plug.

Mine were loose on 2018 FLTRU... I'm pretty sure this is assembly problem at the factory, because after I installed new plugs and torqued to spec, they have stayed nice and snug ever since.

I don't have a complaint about needing to remove the tank to access the two inner plugs. I tend to replace my plugs every 10-15k anyways. 30k does seem like a very long time.

3K, mine were tight.
I took note as I scattered the engine.
