Better way than all that purging is to just let the bike sit for a few hours. If I'm going to pull my tank for routine work, I will make sure the tank is near empty and let it sit overnight. Commence work the next morning when it is all cooled down and there is no pressure left in the fuel line.

There isn't a fuel pump fuse on the M8. Fuel pump power comes from the BCM. Cut power to the BCM, and the engine can't be started to purge the fuel supply line.
Step One. Disconnect fuel pump from main wiring harness. Run the engine until it stalls. Operate the starter an additional 3 seconds after the engine stalls to remove remaining fuel from fuel supply line.

As said...
After sitting overnight, there was little to no pressure in the fuel line. As stated above, just hold a towel under/around it. I would guess if pressure is present there may be the risk of unseating an oring in the connection. In my case there wasn’t even a drop of fuel that escaped.

yeah, and the reality is they really don't need to be replaced very often..every 2 years or 30,000 miles according to maintenance schedule..no need to do them sooner if the engine's running condition / behavior has not changed..like many, I replaced them about half that many miles because it was so cheap and easy to do but not needed
