Default M8 Transmission Broke

Anyone else having issues? Third gear seems to be the culprit. Looking at options to replace the OEM gear set and I’d like to hear if anyone else has addressed this issue. Doesn’t seem to be many options but I’m currently looking at Baker and Jim’s. Appreciate your thoughts.

I think this is about the fifth third gear issue we've seen here in three years. We've been told it's was a problem with the hardening during manufacture. I think I'd try a new third gear (set) and run it.

Thanks for the replies. Redtwin do you have any upgrades done to your bike? The OEM parts will be much less money than the Baker DD7 but it will be worth the money to get a transmission with a 5 year / 50,000 mile warranty.

For 4 grand you can get a warranty on the entire bike for 5 years....with a bunch left over...

I say replace the gear. We don`t even need 6 speeds on these bikes much less seven

How many miles are on the bike?

Did the countershaft gear survive?

The bike only has 7,000 miles on it. The entire gear pack and every bearing will need replaced including the main shaft bearing. The labor is going to cost somewhere around $800 at the dealer and $600 at a shop. Warranty not an option with the minor upgrades, although I think you were being sarcastic.

I didn`t realize you had mods to the engine when I typed my post about warranty....

Hopefully the issue is as others have stated, a manufacturing defect on the gear that failed.

Did the countershaft 3rd gear suffer any damage?

I don't know what mods you have. I was told by Baker that the DD7 is good for 140 ft/lb of torque. Above that you might want to consider the Grudge Box.

My neighbor bought a new 2019 SGS. The transmission crapped out at 600...yes 600, miles. They replaced the whole transmission and it’s been fine since.
