Question Hardening issues ...???

Really ...seems we would be seeing other gears blowing also ...as all the gears are put through the same hardening process...i would think ...
sounds more like wrong oil , sumping (maybe) , high HP , miss shifts ??? clutch not adjusted properly, etc ???

Guess I missed something in my mechanical training the last 45 years so you'll have to explain to me how sumping could possibly have anything to do with a trans gear going. And no all the gears don't go through the process at the same time, they are made then treated in individual gear batch lots, not complete gear sets. Different size components heat treat differently time wise. Just an FYI.

Definitely sounds like a sumper.

Twizted ... you may be right ...was only suggesting other factors that may lead to such a catastrophic failure as this ...as far as the sumping ...low oil level maybe ??? understand that these are done in batch's and not all together as a set too. Third gear is when alot of the power is being put to the ground trying to get everything moving fast (very heavy load) ...so maybe he has found the weak link in his build !!!
that **** really sucks though !!!

All it would take to sour a heat treat batch is the wrong time or temp or the base metal spec was off. We treat a lot of high wear machined parts , had our share of failed stuff come back for no reasons we or the treaters could explain. It happens.

It's definitely not a sumper. These bikes have several weak links when you start making real HP & TQ. I have the Baker DD7 on order and it will back together by next weekend. I'm sure the clutch or compensator will be the next upgrade. But the sumping comment, really...I guess the general consensus is if you go big, you sump. Bad assumption IMO.

Of course sumping didn’t cause the 3rd gear in your trans to quit! I just couldn’t resist when someone suggested sumping! As for the big numbers I’ve just done a stage 2 and mostly looking into handling upgrades.

Quick update - Baker DD7 installed. First ride today and was very impressed with smoothness, easy to find neutral and very quiet. Shout out to PPM Custom in Myrtle Beach for handling the install. Hammer time.

My 2017 Limited stripped third gear during Bike Week at 25,000 miles.Got new gear set under service contract. That lasted 174 miles, and the gear that was installed to quiet the first gear clunk, started to rattle. So I got another new gear set.500 miles later, hit a deer and totaled the bike.Third gear failure is more common than 2 or 3 bikes.
