This would be a significant safety risk when used on a motorcycle!
K&N claims that the spot welds have the potential to fail only if the nut is used to INSTALL the filter and that the nut is only provided to make removal convenient.
However, there are numerous failures reported by individuals who only "hand tightened" the filters.

If you already have a good oil filter wrench, I would not risk buying a filter with a spot-welded nut.
The K&N recall only involved the 204 series of oil filters and not the ones used on Harleys. So don't panic, the K&N on your Harley is just fine. I would caution that they are easy to overtighten, making them very difficult to remove. One half to 3/4 turn max is all it takes -- never had any luck trying to tighten them by hand.
