In the process of installing an S&S 124 in my 17 RG and doing a chain drive conversion and we found that my stock clutch was basically burned up.
What causes this failure? Always have run Redline or Lucas primary oil and I know how to operate a motorcycle properly (please don't go there).
We also found that I'm getting transfer of transmission oil into the primary too. Oh joy.
Bike has 17k miles on it.
So now, I'm putting in a Barnett clutch in. Prior to this I was already going to install an AIM clutch plate and the Lightforce slave cylinder but replacing the clutch was not in the plan.

Been there, Done that. I replaced with the HD replacement clutch pack which takes it from a 9 disc to a 10 disk and added the heavy springs and AIM unit and it has been fine since then. I run just stock oils as I too have the transfer issue and figure why mix fluids.
How do you ride your bike? Lots of popping the clutch? Very hard acceleration with hard shifting? Any burn outs? Racing? Things that generally stress the clutch and are outside the realm of "normal riding"?
I think sometimes it can be an unconscious action as well. I hear it all the time when I am riding next to some riders. The go to shift and the bike's R's go up as they are in the middle of each shift and they do this each gear with a long slow let out of the clutch. That will wear out a clutch. Not saying this is how you ride OP.. We need more facts.
Looking again, all I can honestly see is a clutch that is red tinted due to the fluid being used.
The steels and friction disks don't look overly worn and there are no scaring or multicolor overheated areas pictured that I can tell.
Did you detect any slipping while riding it? Regardless, I don't see anything that could be called "abuse". Some people throw that out there because they don't know either...
