Well, what has occurred here is that the MOCO chieftans have known that sales are plunging so they pull out all the stops to cut costs. This is exactly what has occurred. Then, to make matters worse yet they get hit with what they are calling a 35 million dollar expense to recall the 2017 and 2018 touring bikes for clutch problems.
In short what has occurred here is that the MOCO has followed the cardinal rule in management which is to get YOUR COSTS INLINE WITH SALES. Slashing costs if fairly easy to do. Increasing sales is not, especially if your sales have been falling since the model year 2006.
Very Nice and accurate explanation. Thank goodness for you and a business person's perspective on the issue.

That is also where all the VTX's were built which were great bikes & a good bit cheaper. I still have mine.

Feature for feature I would place the 2019 Goldwing against the 2019 CVO Limited. The GW is almost $16,000 LESS than a CVO Limited.

HOG is facing a massive cliff drop ahead. A company can only jack prices on their remaining loyal customers in a declining unit sales market before REALLY BAD things begin to happen. https://realmoney.thestreet.com/arti...HOO&yptr=yahoo

Honda was not and still not union. Their wages are still not inline with the rest of the automotive industry because of it

A very nice, and ACCURATE, difference in labor rates. And since union labor has been on a downslide for decades, I doubt that U.S. labor is expensive at all, comparatively speaking. Union membership just isn't that much of a factor anymore, so it can't have that much of an impact on prices.

I have visited a lot of showrooms in the past few months and they are packed with both new and used bikes. Look inside the window when they are closed, every available space is taken up. The aisles between the clothes rack, the lounge, the hallways, the service area all full of bikes. They roll all those outside when they open. I was in the Indian dealer last weekend in Daytona. The place was jammed full of motorcycles inside and with a bunch outside wrapped around two sides of the building. The guy tells me I should have seen it the week before leading into Biktoberfest as they had sold a **** ton of bikes during the event. I don't now where they would have put them.

I hope we have another surge in popularity like we did in the eighties.

US labor is expensive due to our standard of living, it’s not really a union thing. Look at all the benefits the average factory worker gets on top of the base pay. Then you have all of the regulations to deal with, it’s expensive. Compare that to some Asian countries where people are happy with $5 a day, can’t compete nor should we.
