Default Figure this one out. Please!!

I have been having an issue with gas dripping out of my fuel tank vent tube and it is getting worse. Every time I stop it dumps a puddle of gas out the tube. It doesn't matter how much gas is in the tank. It's been as low as having the fuel light on. Went to the dealer yesterday, there were no techs there (they don't work on Monday). I didn't know that, so the parts guy gave me a new gas cap to try and that did not fix it and they did not have a vapor valve in stock. I believe the vapor valve has to be bad but how is the gas getting into the tube when the tank only has a gallon of gas in it? Someone suggested the fuel pump may be putting out too much pressure. Unless I am mistaken the fuel pump just pressurizes the fuel lines and not the tank itself. Is that correct? Its an 18 Heritage 114. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to leave it at the dealer.
Thanks a lot,
SR

Thanks mj . I just went out and looked in the tank while turning on the ignition and I could see gas movement and what looked like gas spitting. Don't think that is normal.
Thanks again

That likely is normal, it is a constant pressure and flow pump, so it releases the unneeded fuel back into the tank...

Thanks. That makes sense. If it were a hose leaking it seems it would be a constant stream. Thanks again.

I wonder if the unneeded fuel it is releasing back to the tank would be enough to get into the vent tube?

A far as I know the fuel pump only pressurizes the fuel lines not the tank. Thanks

Thanks deni, I am going to try a new vapor valve and if that doesn't fix it I will take it in. It's under warranty but they are always so far out it will just sit there. I will try the simple fix first. It's a $16.00 part and takes 5 minutes to install.
Thanks,
SR
