Default hi flow air cleaner hype /myth/ comfort/ help

I have a SE extreme I dont think i like its look . I like the stock air cleaner better than anything , really 300 400 500 bucks are you kidding me . I guess my question will the k&n hd 1717 flow enough air to not hold back a 22x cam . I always seem to get stuck in the rain not to mention the extreme is loud and just as much hitting my knee .

Ideas?

for a $175 the SE High Flow uses the stock AC cover for some weather protection and provide plenty of air flow, and they have modified the breather tubes / config that have all but eliminated the breather dribble the original ones came with...affordable, looks good, no need for rain sock, flows plenty and no breather residue mess..what's not to like!

No stock AF is choking a stock bike.
Ask any dyno shop.

i believe the backplate in the kit and the bigger breathers aid in improved overall performance, but no data to back that statement up

Take a look at the Outlaw 587 Air Cleaner. It will out-perform any of the A/C's mentioned, plus it Low Profile, so less possibility of knee hitting it.

If you want to run the stock cover, this Outlaw 606 Air Cleaner is specifically designed for that. It is not as low profile as the 587, but you will get great performance out of it.

Besides out performing the majority of a/c's out there, they are reasonably price and Made in The USA.

606 pictured with stock cover-

I have a complete OEM Stage 1 on my ‘18 Deluxe, and I use the stock cover. The set up sits closer to the bike than stock, so it provides a little more room.

I don’t mind the stock cover, but I really wish Harley would make a version of their Nostalgic round chrome cover that will fit a M8.

Yes. The HD-1717 is more than sufficient for 107 and even stock 114 applications. The flow capacity of an air cleaner has to be correct for the cubic inches of the engine. Changing a cam does not affect the potential amount of air that can come in; only increasing the size of the engine does. My 120 made over 132 HP with this filter in a modified stock housing. For my application, it wasn't enough. For yours, it's more than enough. My modified unit is available for sale, if you're interested.
