Default Where to Check History with VIN?

I searched and came across a TON of discussion using "VIN check" term...none of the zillion posts answered the basic question. I have the VIN of a '17 RGS I am looking at and I'd like to know if there are records with HD service or any other resource that can shed light on the bike. The seller swears it has been perfect for the little time he has ridden (turns out it has only 2400 miles).

What should I do with the VIN to check it out a bit more?

Thanks!!

I'll call the dealer local to the bike I considering and ask.

Thanks

Very often they will not divulge much information on a bike you do not own. Also, information is not always centralized, dealer A may have some info that dealer B does not have, etc.

True. I dealt with that with an expensive vehicle I bought that can be finicky...had to get owner's permission. Makes sense I suppose.

I was asking based on a prior thread where someone suggested I get the VIN and check to see if it had been in the shop. I am sure the owner would be willing to let me see any/all records.

Thanks.

Last I heard there is no "central VIN database" like Carfax for motorcycles.

Also, a lot of people work on their own bikes, and/or take them to independent shops, so even if such a thing as carfax for motorcycles existed (and there are sites that claim to be just that), I would have to think their information would be wildly incomplete. Also I would be skeptical that HD dealers would report to such sites anyway.

2400 miles? What history? What you see is what you get...it is not even due for an oil change...

2400 miles in two years. The owner should have the 1000 mile service receipt.

New member here, just going through the posts to get up to speed. Saw this topic and have a recent experience with it.

I traded in my 08 CVO RK last month and got a 17 RK. The salesman was able to pull up the VIN history on my 08 to verify all the recalls were done on the bike. The history was for all work done at several HD dealerships, in Indiana, Daytona and Jacksonville. So, yes, in my case all work done by HD was available. Maybe the seller would agree to get the local HD to print out a history of the bike.
