Default Restoring bottom end torque after cam change

Hi Guys,

I am planning on a Stage II upgrade using the Woods WM8-22X camshaft. I am told that the M8 is very sensitive to free flowing exhaust. I currently have a Power Vision PV-2 Tuner, SE Hi-Flow AC, Jackpot 2-1-2 Ceramic header & Bassani DNT mufflers. The problem is I am chasing after a good sound which the Bassani's, Woods cam and Jackpot will provide. Of course the Bassani's offer low back pressure and are going to be a problem developing bottom end torque. I am thinking of installing Thunder Torque Inserts or Big city Thunder inserts. Does anyone have any experience doing the same or other suggestions? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Do you want performance or sound? It isn't an exact trade off, but you need to determine your priorities. You should talk with a reputable builder

My main priority is sound but I don't want my bike to perform worse with a stage II.

I've always tried to get the most performance I could in the past when I did builds, so I always ran either a D&D boarzilla or a Drago's Dragula 2 into 1 pipe. If you're truly wanting the sound from the exhaust system you mentioned then use it and just downshift to pass if you have a loss on low-end torque. If you start putting in torque inserts or Big City baffles you're going to change the sound that you would have had with this set up.

It all depends on the combination that comprises your build. That's why I suggest talking to one or more reputable builders. For example, if you want bottom end torque I wouldn't go with true duals, which generally sound great, but often causes TQ to come on later in the curve. As some have suggested, a good 2-1 (D&D or other) will perform very well (tho many 2-1 exhausts have dips in the curve at lower RPMs), but for some those are *too* loud, or not the right sound (some are raspy, others less so)

Thanks guys. I am going to try the TTI inserts. A few members on here have stated that it was enough of an improvement to not search further.

Have you considered putting the stock mufflers on the FM catless header, they might give back pressure?

REPORT LINK on Harley Exhaust with myths and facts.

The Thunder Torque Inserts™ will give you back that low and mid range torque you lose when you change exhaust.

They'll also deepen the tone a bit, giving it a throatier growl.

Here's a sound clip-

We've seen the most optimal results by removing the baffles and installing the TTI.

LINK to the TTI.

I have considered it but I like the deep low tone of the DNT's so I am going to try installing the TTI's first. I have no doubt that the stock mufflers will outperform the DNT's in torque but for me I will take the better sound with most of the performance.

The DNT’s with the TTI’s installed sound really good. The low end torque seems to be good also. I haven’t dynoed the bike with these mufflers and inserts so I can’t give you specific numbers compared to the mufflers we tested with, but the bike seems to pull from the bottom up.
