I think you guys are referring to voltage, not amperage. Normal charging should be about 14.7.

My 2019 cvo sg volt meter started going crazy, spiked to red then back down several times, was trying to make it home but didn't work out. Battery died and stuck me on the side of the road. Regulator was bad and replaced. 3500 miles on the new one and all is good so far.

I made a 3$ digital quick release volt meter for my battery tender/access cord. Great for real time overview

2018 RGS mine was reading almost 16v then would drop to 11v. This happened 700miles from home on the cherahola skyway. Luckily Asheville HD was able to pull a new regulator off a 2020 they had in a crate to get me back on the road.

Holy thread resurrects Batman...

Well mine went toast on my 2 years 8 month old less than 5K miles Fatboy, no output, battery just gets flatter and flatter. Apparently there are none in Europe and the guesstimate time is currently sitting at early July. My friendly parts guy had a look and couldn't see but a small few dotted across the states ...so at this point, I guess I aint getting many miles done this year.

I took mine to bits and found corroded bits of copper floating about inside so it obviously wasn't sealed very well

Mine lasted 7 months in on a 2018 114 fatbob. Replaced under warranty. Only symptom was it wouldn't start. Damn silly place to put them.

Damn, you must have got the single spare that was assigned to the UK haha. I don't think these things are designed for our weather

Nope, they took it off an M8 on the showroom floor! Damn decent of them, to get me back on the road. It was the first leg of my journey to Nth Wales, for a touring holiday. Only lost 3 hours including recovery to Lakeside Harley. Was impressed by their help. Not impressed with the designed location for a key electrical part. No further problem though.

Well, my 2017 has around 4500 miles. Road Glide Ultra. Very certain the rectifier/regulator is bad. My tests show the typical AC output from the stator but nothing out of the reg/rect.

I've ordered a Drag Specialties replacement after not finding any - anywhere. Guessing they are either frying like the devil and flying off the shelves OR all the new spare stock is stuck near the Suez Canal.

The question I have related to actual replacement has to do with replacement procedure on the water cooled Ultra. Has anyone done this? It appears to me that the water pump framework has to come off which may mean draining coolant. Either that or the oil filter has to come off and hope to work through that space. Thus far, trying to get the torx screws out has me swearing.

Thanks!

Wow! Leap frog thread resurrections. I’m betting after 3-years the OP resolved his concern.
