Default why OEM M8 clutch side pipe does not flow - internal pics

was taking the CAT out of a pipe today, and took a few pics inside.
it looks like the 2 inch outlet on the gas side pipe is required because the crossover pipe does not have smooth bends and radius inlets to scavenge exhaust.

the CAT looks like something they buy from another vendor, and just weld it inline.
the edges of the blue tape are where each end of the CAT is, about six inches long, so regular hole saws will bottom out before they go thru.

the weird part is my clutch side pipe, was turning black (reversion?) and the gas side pipe tip was staying cleaner.

Where the crossover pipe comes into the collector, you need to grind the stub in down until it no longer protrudes into the collector. It doesn’t seem like much, but it will make flow into the left side pipe better. Steve had me do that to my stock header in preparation for doing the cam testing.

Thanks for the post and pics. Did you reinstall the pipe after drilling hole thru cat, or did you remove more?

News flash it not suppose to. The scavenger exhaust system has been around awhile. It allow the engine to split the difference between a 2-1 and 2-2 exhaust system.
They were designed that way long before we had CAT's

I can attest there is no downside to adding another pipe and muffler to the exit of a 2:1 exhaust system.
In fact, since it is added to the exit system it also acts as an overflow outlet when revs are up and restriction builds in the main muffler.
This configuration is ideal for noise level and tone control without strangling flow and killing power.
