Just installed Smart Siren II (only chips)? 17 FLHR
Hi,
I had done this years ago and I think from what I remember the actual siren will not function untl the 9v battery is fully charged?
Today just installed new siren II, put the remote about 20' away and came back and shook the bike, lights flashed and heard a couple chirps. Then came back with the fob and started the bike, on startup hears 2 chirps not no siren. Does it sound like the internal battery needs to be fully charged?
Again I had went through this years ago when I installed on my 12 and I had to wait overnight till the actual siren would work...
I did read in a older instal instruction if the internal 9v battery is dead all you will get are chirps , I know that the battery is dead as it has never been charged ;-)

Opened it and the battey was so corroded that the terminals fell off both the snap connector and the battery itself.
This was NOS purchase of eBay, the seller told me just to keep it and refunded my money.
So today went out and bought a new snap connector and wired that in, also went to batteries + and bought a Precharged Nuon NUR39V-1LS ITS NIMH 220MAH @ 8.4V
The OEM battery was a GP 200MAH 8.4v.
So popped the siren back in and when turn the key I get 1 chirp as well when I turn off and walk away.
Rock the bike and all I get is the flashing lights and I did rock the bike for awhile as well as tried starting with out the fob nearby. Gos the same thing.
My thinking at this point of thet perhaps the nre precharged battery would still need a charge? I did put it on the DVM and it read 8.4 volts but again it did not have a load on it.
So not I brought the battery in the house and put it on e NIHM charged, the charges says it will take 8 hours. The OEM battery says a ful; charge will take 16 hours.
Just hope that a fully charged battery will do the trick. If it chirps the siren should work

I traded a14 limited for a 17 Limited and had the siren installed on both. The 14 was much louder than the 17. I discussed it with the tech who setup my 17, when he looked at it he had installed the siren upside down. He removed it and replaced it correctly (took about 30 seconds) and all was well.
