Sumping: Early detection before damage

Sumping: Early detection before damage
So have we had enough reports about sumping to perhaps put together some trends and more importantly, possibly avoid engine damage by detecting it early and shutting down?
Some have reported sumping followed by engine failure.
Others have reported sumping and then seems to go away, only to return again. Some of these have had dealers say they couldn't reproduce the problem.
So it appears that it is possible to avoid engine damage if sumping were detected early? Those of you this has happened to or know someone that has - could damage have been avoided?
