For 1900's technology, HD is overpriced. The Yamaha's and Goldwings mentioned are by far superior.

 

Weather is sunny and 81 degrees for the last few days here. I have been struggling with failing health. I sometimes start to improve but then something happens and I get bad again. Lately it is two steps forward, one step back which is better than continuously going back like I had been doing.

 

I thought this thread was about price and why HD sales were down.
Badcooky and oleboy are derailing this thread and it will soon be locked with the cheap shot name calling.

Im a fan of Triumph, dont own one, never rode one but you never know.

Get great write ups, thing is in my state there is zero dealers.
I could have picked up a Thunderbird for a song and a dance up in Charlotte.
The dealer was willing to do it just about over the phone, complete, straight up price quote, and there is lies the issue.

Bottom line, 2018 Tiger list is $17,000 to $22,000.
Nothing to sneeze at and if you were one of the unfortunate ones to pay anything near the sticker price, you get screwed.
Because the bikes, much like most all metrics, dont sell without the companies rebating the dealer to clear models out for the next model year.

Let me stress, I am one in these forums that could care less at what someone rides. I do feel value in the HD brand simply because the dealers are not allowed to slash the price of new bikes, its kills value, kills the brand, everyone knows it and that goes for ANY product on the market right down to cell phones. If Harley dealers slashed prices on a regular basis they would be no different then any metric brand.

With that said, I love my Road King, best purchase ever but I also would love to pick up a cheap BRAND NEW Concours at an unbelievable price right out the door for a second bike. I would always look at the Concours as the throwaway brand but still very fun and a change up ride for any given day. ) I could pick a brand new leftover today at a 35% discount. Amazing and would be fun, (im making my wife nervous ha ha)

 

Wrong. A 2018 1200 tiger is 17 to 20k. A 800 tiger with 95hp and 60ft lbs is from 12 to 15k depending on if its the street or off road one. For less than a 14k street bob i have multiple riding modes, abs, traction control. In 2 days of having the bike i put on 200 miles and thats in 40° weather.

Looking at the harleys they dont have that soul anymore. A 4 valve per cylinder head doesn't screeam harley, it screams metric as they have been making them since the early 90s. The same guy who calls them harley wannabes now has a harley thats a metric wannabe. With harley you get bottom barrel tech for top of the line prices.

I have a real harley, its a evo with 2 valves, it lopes on idle and has the sound i grew up with knowing as a harley. These new m8s sound like toasters.

 

Im not wrong, you didnt state you were talking about an 800 Tiger which is something that would never be for me.
A 1200 goes up to $22,000.

Getting prepared to buy a 2018 pickup. Anyone here shopped them lately? Here's an example on the Ford:


2018 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x4 = $39k+
Powerstroke Diesel = $49+
Lariat Pkg = $61k
King Ranch = $67k
Platinum = $72k


All these are baseline prices for a specific build level. You can reasonably anticipate another $3k to $9k in various options and upgrades. In my case I'm looking at a Lariat with enough extras to drive the price toward $68k. That's over $73k with sales tax. Ford is offering ZERO incentives as the trucks are selling strongly. I've seen several lots holding $75k trucks and a few approaching $80k. My '12 diesel worth $30k seems like a cheap ride.


Harley overpriced? Definitely a matter of perspective.
