Default Symptoms of sumping??

Heard a lot about our M8s sumping. But, what are the symptoms and consequences of sumping?

Under normal conditions, the lower end should be lubricated by the rotating flywheels splashing a few ounces of oil from the bottom of the crankcase.

When "sumping" occurs; instead of just a few ounces (3 oz.) of oil being in the bottom of the crankcase, there are several ounces + 6+ ozs.), and the flywheels wind up spinning in a bath of oil. This causes severe drag, eats horsepower, creates heat, and slows the motor. While oil accumulates in the bottom of the case, other engine parts suffer from lack of oiling and excessive heat; then motor meltdown occurs.

Most noticeable symptom of sumping is reduced power after running motor for a length of time.

TC s don't lubricate that way.. At least they are not supposed to.. From Knucks, the the flywheel did pick up oil and dump it in a trough which emptied in the cam case. There was some additional oil tossed around. TC simply pumped it out.. Crank mains were lubricated by splash, and rods by dribble from the cam cover / cam plate..

I have a 2018 Ultra Limited inTwisted Cherry, this week I had the bike serviced and all the fluids changed,.

I told the tech that she felt way slower and that a 06 stock HD Road King walked away from me.
They changed all the guilds and measured each one coming out of 5he bike. All levels were correct, or so we thought My bike mechanic thought about what I has said about the bike being slower then it was when new .

He changed 5he fluids and the next day he pushed it out of 5he shop and, wanted to mark 5he dip stick to monitor the bike, he took it for a 4 mile ride and then brought it into the shop and drained the crankcase, low and behold there was 20 ounces of oil in the in the motor not 3 -4 as HD designed . WELL I KNOW NOW WHAT SUMPING IS, this bike has 6;000 miles on it and HD wont stand behind it.
So I am now spending another $1;600 on a new oil pump which will rectify the problem, or so I,m told

Your dealership should give you for free at least a new oil pump on the factory or there dime and only charge you labor to change it which should only be a few hundred dollars. That's what mine did plus I got a discount on stage 2 upgrade

weird..so they measured the drained fluid, put the correct level in, then next morning wheeled it out cold and rode it for only 4 miles and it sumped just then? would think they would at least want to get it up to normal operating temp ..did they say the test ride validated the power loss? and yeah..$1600 for a new oil pump installed is an insanely high quote

A 2018 Ultra Limited is still in warranty and an oil pump is not sixteen huned bucks or $1;600 or WFTI.

My 2018 Road Glide went out of warranty in November. the OP's bike may very well be out of warranty too. As to that price for a new pump, whats the rest of the story?
