Hmmmm .... 4 mile test ride and the crankcase sumped 20 ounces?? $1600 for an oil pump install?? Sounds sketchy at best or alot of details are missing. A brand new oil pump for this bike is about $100 plus a few hours of labor to install.

They changed all the guilds and measured each one coming out of 5he bike. All levels were correct, or so we thought My bike mechanic thought about what I has said about the bike being slower then it was when new .

He changed 5he fluids and the next day he pushed it out of 5he shop and, wanted to mark 5he dip stick to monitor the bike, he took it for a 4 mile ride and then brought it into the shop and drained the crankcase, low and behold there was 20 ounces of oil in the in the motor not 3 -4 as HD designed . WELL I KNOW NOW WHAT SUMPING IS, this bike has 6;000 miles on it and HD wont stand behind it.
So I am now spending another $1;600 on a new oil pump which will rectify the problem, or so I,m told

There are so many questions on this that I don’t know where to start. If the dealer drained the engine oil and replaced with the correct amount and then after a 4 mile ride it had 20 ounces instead of 3-4 ounces? If the engine holds 4.5 quarts that is around 149 ounces. If after 4 miles there were only 20 ounces that came out you should look for a major oil leak. If only 3-4 ounces came out you should thank your luck stars that he only rode it 4 miles and you are only having to change the oil pump and not the bottom end.

Drained out of the crank case, not the oil drain plug.

How do you drain from the crankcase without removing the drain plug?

Hi Guys
Yes the bike was brought to temp, and then ridden, before he checked it (old school mechanic, has worked exclusively on HD for close to 40 years, and well respected) .
When I called HD (the dealer) and said I had 7100 miles the said well its past the 5K mark, which I think is bullshit, but I can only write what I was told
.
I was a little high on my pricing for the new oil pump, they want to put in will be close to 1100 including labor. It is what it is.

I will not buy another bike from the dealer where I bought this one, and the last two from, as I had nothing but problems with the service department.

From day one when I installed all my extras on the 2018 limited, there were problems from dropping and bending the front fender, to my chrome gauge covers falling off while riding, and then bringing it back in to be fixed and the tech used some sort of glue which damaged the colored matched inner faring (they replaced) to the final item, when she came out of winter storage from HD and I picked her and up went to Daytona bike week, put on more miles and had a service done. Low and behold the transmission had 4-5 ounce of fluid (should have had 28) and before you ask, no Primary was also low. So I am thinking the morons drained the 3 holes and never replaced the trany and primary.

The bike does not leak a drop. so that wasn't the problem, I know now to double check every time it leaves HD. The money we pay for service we should not have to worry about it, but LIVE and LEARN and RIDE
