Question Front axle nut covers

Picked up a nice set for my RGS in spite of the ad stating would not fit my 17. Put them on anyway and see why the disclaimer. Seems there should/could be something that goes over the left side over the bolt/nut head, kind of like a collar? It is on there but does not seat completely. Ya really can't tell unless you look closely but don't want to lose it either in spite of using loctite. Anything out there?

If its not seating correctly on the axle, maybe that's why ad stated it would not fit a 2017 touring.Of course,I have bought accessories before off a ad that states it wouldn't fit my bike but would fit a previous year which had identical OEM accessory part numbers to my model and year.

Take the cover to Lowes or Home Depot and find a stainless steel screw that longer but the same size and thread count as the set screw that came with the covers. Orient the screw hole towards the ground and tighten with the longer screw, so it is not visible.

The big box store might have something I need but a long shot. Like I said I got it to work but does not sit flush like the right side does. Thinking maybe an aluminum collar?

Here can be seen what I am talking about, right vs left.

I think those things are a band aid(just don't care for the look), personally I'd save up for the flush mount axle kit. so much cleaner looking. but to answer your question,is it just bottoming out? maybe the axle itself is just a bit to long?

I see the space your talking about in the photos. If the covers are aluminum, have not bottomed out against the front of the cover, and are just a snug fit, you may be able to use a Dremel tool with a small sanding drum to remove a small amount of material that would allow the cover to slide all the way on.

I just took it apart, got a closer look at what was happening and feel pretty stupid. What was going on is there is a washer about an 1/8" thick and that is what was giving me the space. I did manage to get it on flush this time but what I really need to do is take the axle out and grind the washer flat in a small area so that it does not have a chance of falling off.

BTW, the reason I liked these covers so much is because they very closely resemble my RC exhaust. Posting my stupid oversight in case anyone else wants to put some covers on their bike. I have always liked these and put them on every bike I get with whatever theme seems appropriate.
