Transmission fluid transfer service bulletin
#771
Has anyone seen this on the older twin cams? I just dropped off my 2009 Street Glide with this problem. Tranny was making noise, so I checked fluids. Had a Harley 3 hole last Friday, and in less than 100 miles, all the tranny fluid transferred to the primary. HD Support told dealership I had a bad seal, and that the primary sucked all the tranny fluid in. This is the first time it’s happened after 22.5k miles.

Lol!
That was my first question to them. Anything is possible. At some point, I just have to take what they’re saying as truth. It would be hard to actually make that mistake as the primary is filled by pouring oil up to the edge of the hole on the left side under derby cover. With the cover sealed, it can be overfilled, but once you crack it open, all the extra fluid pours out. So that hole literally only holds its proper volume. The only way to get extra oil in primary is for it to come from somewhere else when the engine is sealed. If engine oil is correct, and tranny is empty, then that is the only place the primary could have pulled it from.

It was my fault since I do my own maintenance.
When I asked how I accomplished this, I got the ol' deer in the headlites stare.
A couple months later, when I took my '18 M8 back for Trans oil transfer, the Sales
manager told me that they had to use less than qualified mechanics because nobody
wanted to work there and make the small pay the mechanics get.

Not the primary cover, but the inner primary. You will not see the vent unless you're on your hands and knees looking for it.
