Default M8 vs AMF years Love/Hate

I know some of you are frustrated with some of the issues with the M8. I think it sucks too that the M8 has some issues. I am reading some post like "this is the last Harley I am going to buy" or are not going to buy a new Harley or are thinking of selling their M8. But these issues are not nearly as bad as it was in the AMF years. Those of you who have been with Harley for a long time will have a love/hate relationship with Harley. Some of you new to Harley may already have the love hate relationship LOL! The M8 is a good motor and I plan on keeping my 17 RK. So far my M8 has 12k miles and is doing fine.

Not had a single issue with my M8 King. I did however have a few minor issues with my 103 TC.

I plan on getting old with my FLHR.

My M8 has been great for 7300 miles two trips out of state. I actually still have my old '72 AMF Harley that I bought new! It was trouble free for many years. AMF saved Harley! Sure there were some issues in '71 (low ends) and '79 (valves sticking in the guides) but all in all they were good bikes at the time. I used to do a 1200 mile trip to see my grandfather every summer and always got there and back without a hitch. Remember everyone was trying to have a "Chopper" in those days and guys modifying their bikes caused a lot of problems because most guys didn't know what they were doing.

Before AMF you could buy a 74" Dresser or your choice of a Sportster with either kick or electric start, unless you count the small Italian imports they sold as Sprints etc.

After AMF you could get a Super Glide, Fat Bob, Low Rider, Wide Glide and so on. They also were in charge of the development of the Evo engine which is what made Harleys really dependable. It's in vogue to bad mouth AMF, but it really isn't fair. Those bikes weren't perfect but they were okay and Harley didn't go under like the British bikes during the same time period.

Man I remember when the evos came out the old timers thought that was the end of
the company. Kinda just like now..lol .As stated before AMF was a good thing for Harley.
And back then everyone wanted a KZ900 for speed.
