Default Question about ECM

Does the ECM log changes that are made to it, and can the dealer see what changes have been made historically?

Thanks

Doug

I believe there has been some discussion here that indeed dealers can see if your ECM has been modified.

yes. There is a counter to log the number of times tuned. Dealer can see the name of the currently installed tune. If it doesn't match a HD tune, then they will know you have an after market tune. Most Delphi ECM have this function since manufacturers decided that if you mess with their tune, you got to dance if something messes up

wonder how that works with the new street tuner, it allows you to "auto tune" the engine a wee bit from the HD settings that were downloaded (in my case stage one tune) but surely the slight variances made by the autotune feature are not enough to weigh it over any.

It doesn't log the changes it just logs that it has been flashed and when. The dealers can see the tune information but not the flash information. The MoCo can see it if the dealer plugs it in and uploads the data to harley.

So that begs the question then...

The dealer and moco can see how many times it's been tuned. But can it see how its been tuned or with what?

I mean cant I tune mine as many times as I want with the SE tuner?

For example, I tune my bike 5 times with the SE tuner.

Then I buy a PV tuner and tune it once with that. They only see the 6 tunes, but not that the last tune was a non compliant tuner.

Or is that wrong?

I don't know for certain what exactly they see. I was told by my dealer what they can and can't see. All he told me is that Harley can tell if a non-harley tuner was used. I am pretty sure all the delphi systems are like that. I know Chevy can tell if you muck with one.

I am wondering if you buy another ECM, us that to tune your bike, and if an issue arises you replace it with the stock one. Think they can tell?

I thought the ECM has to be married to the bike by the dealer but I could be wrong. If so that would raise some suspicion I would imagine but in theory it would work.

Which module stores mileage? That may be a factor.
