I Grabbed a 2018 SG on Saturday
MY dealership "debuted" the 2018 line Saturday morning (big party), so I rode over to see them with a buddy to check things out. They opened at 9am and we got there around 9:30am.
They only had seven 2018 bikes and the sales manager told me they weren't getting any more for a week or two. I guess HD just wanted to get one of each model to the dealerships for the kickoff of the 2018 model year.
Lots of people were there checking things out and some were taking the new bikes out for a test ride. I am an SG guy, so I wandered over to check them out. I looked over the 2018s and the leftover 2017s, noticing there isn't much difference between them. My plan was to wait another year or so and pick up a slightly used 2017 SG or SGS. The last brand new HD I bought from a dealership was in 1992, so I felt safe that I could walk out of there after checking them out.
Then a sales guy asked me if I wanted to take the one 2018 SG for a test ride. It is a "Black Tempest" color, which to me looks like a black with some glitter in the paint job. It also has the larger radio/gps unit installed at the factory, so it is almost like a SGS, without the blacked out chrome (which I am fine with). I was the first one to test this bike.
Before I got out of the parking lot, I knew I was taking it home. I had my buddy ride it after me, to make sure I wasn't dreaming and he came back with the same smile on his face. I think they gave me a very fair value for my 2013 SG trade-in ($14k) and I did the deal, after a little haggling on the dealer fees, etc. I am sure I didn't push them as far as they would go, but I was happy with the deal.
Here I am with the new bike, right before taking her home. It still needs a few "comfort" things - highway pegs, back rest for the wife, etc., but there will be no messing with a Stage 1 or slip ons for this bike - I just don't think it needs it. This is the first completely stock HD that I ever rode that feels perfect.
HD has a winner with the M8 (I know, I am a little late to the party)!

I agree, or should say 'agreed' early on, but like always I caved ..we'll be hearing from you in the "which slip-ons and AC are best?" threads later...LOL and messing' with you, if ever there was one that the want vs need rule applied the M8 is the one, it just flat out performs stock

Thanks to all.
My first impulse, with every other HD I have owned, was to immediately do a Stage 1 to it. I am not saying "never," but so far this bike exceeds all performance expectations I have, so there is no urge to spend the $$ to upgrade it. I took it out yesterday and rode 150 miles and was keeping it "under control" for my first 500 miles, but I could feel that the throttle had a lot more left, even at highway speeds (70-80 mph).

Only time will tell if I have any negative comments, but I agree that most of the negative things I have read appear to be written by non-owners. So far, it has been pretty darn close to perfect. If you ask me, anyone who test rides these bikes will have a hard time returning to their TCs.
