Default Knocking behind "6 speed" cover

Took bike in for service and went for about an hour ride yesterday, when I got home the bike was idling in the driveway in neutral, sounded like a hammer hitting in the area of the 6 speed cover, if I blipped the throttle it got louder. Let bike cool for a mins and started it again and the noise was gone but now I'm worried. Checked the trans fluid and it is good, clean also. Not sure if I should ride it today and see if it comes back.

Also, no leaks anywhere, checked with a flashlight but it did have a weird smell when the knocking was going on.

Good idea to take to the dealer just to be safe and have a record of it

It wasn't that but when etims cut on it got louder. Update for today, I decided to ride it as normal and if it came apart I would deal with it then, about 150 miles today and it did not make the noise 1 time all day. I have no clue what to think but I do know it did not sound good yesterday when it was making the knocking sound. I will continue business as usual for now and keep my fingers crossed. Have 8,000 miles on my bike now so I was really hoping nothing was gonna pop up.

Sounds like maybe a trashed compensator? That's a long-running and well-known issue with the twin-cam bikes and I assume it'll be the same with the M8's, too.

Baker makes a replacement unit that'll fix that problem permanently.

That's what I'll put in mine when my OEM comp goes TU. I already installed their "Attitude Adjuster" manual primary chain tensioner (the day I bought the bike, BTW) and couldn't be happier with the improved shifting, ease of finding neutral whether rolling or stopped and the decrease in clunking when shifting.

Good luck,

JP

Went for a solid hour and 15 min ride again this afternoon, no noise at all again today. Not sure what to think but I will take it!

Default 2018 Road King Neutral Knock Behind Trans RH Cover

First long ride today, about 4 hours. Parked in the driveway, noticed a loud knock coming from the area of the RH trans cover, nothing on the left side. Goes away when clutch is disengaged. First time I've heard this. Thought the new fancy sissor first gear was supposed to prevent this? Bike has 465 miles now.

Anyone had this fixed or is it a 6 speed thing? Prior bike was a 5 speed twin cam, this is all new to me.

Did you by chance check the fluid before you rode and after?

That would be a pretty pronounced sound from the left side of the lower motor. Typically makes noise under load, not while idling.
