RECALL: 5/25/17 Oil Line Clamps on 2017 Touring Bikes
#131
I confirmed last night the hose is leaking next to the oil pressure switch. It's very wet around that line and spring clamp. I inspected it early on and a dealer also did a inspection. I had noticed some wetness in that area but wrote it off to residue from checking the oil pressure many times because I'm gun shy of the oil pressure in my bike now after all the BS concerning my oil pump and over bored cylinders. The whole bottom of the engine is wet except for the area in and around the oil cooler and oil filter.

Had not done the recall check until yesterday.
Wednesday,I notice 3 drops of oil in the garage where I park the bike.
Looked under it and it is soaked. The spring clamp just under the oil sensor is leaking.
Drove it down to the dealer, where I purchased the bike. They looked at it, where all over it. Said they would get it fixed. As well as take care of the recall for the rest of the clamps. They said it should be covered by warranty.

Pull the oil pressure switch. Get the engineering failure spring clap out. Install clamp of your choice. While there build yourself a oil pressure test rig and check oil pressure. Reinstall oil pressure switch. If you need a new oil pressure switch o-ring see your dealer or go buy a proper viton o-ring at your favorite auto parts store or supply house. Also pickup a good teflon thread sealant for the oil pressure switch. Also while inthere make sure the hoses a routed right and there is no wear on them.

All finished, went for a quick mile ride and no leaks yet, but I won't feel better until I get an hour or more then let her sit overnight. I'm just pissed that I spent my morning fixing a part that saved HD a few pennies instead of out riding. And that I've told so many people over the years that "brand new Harley's leak oil" was just a stigma leftover from the AMF days 😡
