When you guy's are saying you have yours set a 4 or 5 you really mean 8 or 10 clicks right? Each click is a half turn according to the manual. I'm 200lbs so I'm going to 1 full turn or two clicks if I'm reading it correctly.
Last week before I went on a little 1,000 mile jaunt I reduced my shock setting from the 8 that the sales guy set my shocks at when they delivered my '17 RGS, to a 2. I am 200 lbs. with my leather and boots. My clothes and stuff in the bags couldn't have weighed 20 lbs. The ride was dramatically improved. I let my 260 lb. friend ride it. He rides a Road King with 13 inch air shocks and he said he loved the ride. Big improvement over his bike. I though about going to 13 inch shocks but after riding over some pretty poor pavement in the Colorado Rockies, I'm happy with these Showas set at 2. My old Street Glide would always bottom out with 12 inchers, this bike only did a couple of times.
Major difference in the shocks on a SG/RG vs the RGU or Ultra. My 2017 book clearly says Full turns when giving recommended sitting. I do know with the newer shocks on the 2017 two turns can make a big difference.
