It sets the preload hydraulically, watch the top of the shock as you adjust the **** to a higher setting. You will see it rise.

So it actually compresses the spring more the higher you turn the ****? That would decrease the travel the higher you go.

I'm 180 and have mine set at 1 for solo. I usually start out on a very soft setting and if I feel i'm bottoming out I keep adjusting up until comfortable. Works for me, I don't pay much attention to what the numbers or what charts say.

Well i cranked that **** almost all the way up to 20 and it rides way better on the highway now. Must have been setup for a 90lb women out of the factory. (im not even a fat ***, im about 180 6ft)

No, it actually (effectively) increases the available travel. With more preload set, less of the total travel available is used up as sag.

Wonder why yours is different than everyone else...too stiff seems to be the consensus.

I am coming off a ducati so im used to rock solid suspension and feeling every bump in the road. I ride hard and like the feedback.

Lol. I'm coming off a BMW GS and used to 4 miles of suspension travel.
