And is there any record of that occurring yet to date?

I dont recall anyone in here mentioning that. Seems most catch it before then. But if, just if, someone were to sayyyy, run one up on a dyno that eventually ran dry and it destroyed the trans, well now.. you'd have the makings of a serious safety issue .

Contacted them and if it is a failure of how it is supposed to work then you can file a complaint. If the potential is there you don't wait until somebody dies to file. Like we use to say in the military, It won't get fixed until someone dies!

Hello .
Have a 2017 road glide 2 weeks old. After the first service I have driven 1040 kilometers. Much of the driving has each in the Norwegian mountains, and a lot of driving in 1, 2 and 3 gears and a lot of braking on gear. Have driven most between 1500rpm and 3000rpm. On this trip I have to fill 1,2 liters of transmission oil. I refilled oil every 300km on this trip
I have also got a loud sound when I put it in 1 gear

BHW.

The "loud sound" when put into first gear is probably very normal. Having to add that much transmission oil is not. I'd get it back to your dealership as soon as possible.

I filed a complaint on the Feds site 4 weeks ago. In my narrative I explained what was happening and what could happen if the transmission runs out of lubricant and locks up at high speed.
No word back and I don't expect any. If enough people complain about the same thing, they will open an investigation, if not they just blow it off. I would urge riders to complain, if you have not done so already. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
It would be a shame if someone were to be hurt or worse.

This only confirms in my mind that they absolutely don't all do it. Getting that much transfer riding between 1500 and 3000 rpm's, yet I can do a 1000km weekend and ride between 2500 and 5000rpm and see zero transfer.

I don't think they all do it either, but that means that the problem isn't a design flaw.

Soooo, the problem would have to be caused by a bad batch of parts, or a manufacturing problem (human error, line procedures, jig alignment, etc).

Honestly, a design problem would be easier to explain and permanently fix - once the real problem was discovered.

You'd think so but build dates with the issue are all over the place so a trouble free bike would be more unlikely. Without wanting to start a war, I wonder how folks break their bikes in.....it's a lot more than seating the rings.

I'm pretty sure Steve Cole knows how to properly break-in a Harley. On top of which, his wife's bike is doing it with less than 100 miles...
