who's been having to add transmission fluid?

Well, I've been riding and wrenching for over 50 years including working as a mechanic (and repairing trannies) for 10 and it can happen on any bike.. It don't happen very often tho.. Depends on RPMs when down shifting but tranny may not go into the next gear.. It's same the fact that you can't shift though all the gears with the motor and bike stopped unless you rock the bike back and forth.

Thanks Max, Im sure my tranny is fine. I appreciate the great info. I really love my bike... I dont want to mess it up. I did have the dealer put some redline with shockproof in during the 1000. I think that oil is really good. My 10 ultra shifted fine with it. kinda miss the old girl.....

yes it happens to me on occasion and no on the trans fluid level being the culprit..just last weekend I was approaching a stop sign on a highway and I was in 6th gear..lazily I just decided to pull the clutch in, slow down first to almost stopped and then downshift..which is not typical for me to do instead of downshifting all the way....it wouldn't downshift all the way down right away and ended up rolling through the stop sign in 2nd gear..just weird behavior..I chalk it up to the drivetrain not liking to be treated that way and will stop doing that

I would guess that the oil is being picked up by first gear then squirted through the trapdoor beating to get to the pushrod. As long as first gear layshaft is touching the oil it has the ability to pick it up.. Pics I see show it being the largest diameter gear in the tranny so it can reach the deepest..

Just finished a customers bike that has been having the same issues with transfer. He is tired of messing with HD and said "give it a try and let's see what happens". So I took it apart and did the modification I had done to mine, plus the next step of what I thought might help. He is leaving next week for a 6000 mile trip up to Canada and back across the western USA. He has his funnel, formula plus and video camera all packed up already and said it cannot be any worse than it is now.
His bike is a 2017 RoadGlide 107 with Stage III HD 114 kit with our new TTS200 camshaft. Checked and set all fluids, did a full dyno tune and check again at the end of it. "Zero" transfer this time around. He will be gone for 2 - 3 weeks so we will see how it does on the road when he gets back.

Mine is done will pick it up tonight or tomorrow some time. We shall see.
Pick it up
Replaced O ring Crank/vehicle SPE 11289A
Replaced Top cover gasket Transmis 25700453
Of course new O ring for drain plug.
I know they have a list of things to check while in there.
It took 1350 miles for mile to transfer 1 and 3/4 to about 2 OZ's.
We shall see how it goes.
