thank you for the reply. Does anybody happen to know what size of torque or Allen wrench it requires? The reason I'm asking is I have a buddy on the road and did not bring his manual and wants to check.
When I pick the bike up today, they told me Harley had a bulletin about the issue. But, he also said they didn't know what was causing the problem.
So we're in the monitoring stage. They told me to come back in 2,000 miles.

My parts manual shows two different bearings, 8970A (mainshaft) and 11000010 (countershaft) - (#10 and #23, respectively, in the diagram for Transmission Bearings and Covers). 8970A was introduced in 2012, 11000010 was introduced in 2011, according to the parts manual.

Steve, are you saying that your transmissions have two of the older bearings?
I am saying I do not know if its th eold or the new for sure, that's why I've ordered the new one to compare them. The new one is supposed to be install on the mainshaft so once I have the new one I will again open it up and check. If its wrong then off to the HD dealership and tell them to fix it! If its correct then I have a spare bearing that cost less than 20 bucks.
I wonder if getting the Speed Check Transmission Dipstick from HD would be more helpful in checking your tranny fluid? No tools needed and would less likely be able to overtighten it.
My parts manual shows two different bearings (#10 and #23 in the diagram on page 454, Transmission Bearings and Covers). BUT, the parts list starts at #19! I have no idea what #10 is supposed to be.
When I first got my bike 10/16 I grabbed the parts manual off SIP and saved it as a PDF. That one shows
10 (8970A) on the Left and 23 (11000010) on the right
Now on SIP it shows 23 (11000010) on the left and 10 (8970A) on the right.
