who's been having to add transmission fluid?

I had a friend checking on the bearings for me and we found somethings I had seen but did not know. From looking at my '14 transmission and the new '17 the bearings looked different. As it turns out the '17 is suppose to use two different bearings by part number. I do not know which is which at this point, as my bike is together at this point and I'm going for a ride today. This could turn out to be as simple as putting the wrong bearing in the wrong place! That would explain why some are getting lots of transfer and others are not. I had him order the two bearings from HD and will see what we see when they get here. I can then compare which one is supposed to be on which shaft and see if mine is correctly installed.
See for yourselves FWIW. If they were reversed in production then what? Parts figure see Transmission Bearings and Covers: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....view?id=169589

I used your link to the parts catalog, do you have one for the service manual too? That might tell us if the difference in the bearings is a seal. This is just what I suggested several pages back in this very thread. I cannot tell from the pictures in the parts catalog what may or maynot be there. The "left" bearing (#23) as you call it is the one for the pushrod area and a seal on the outer portion of that bearing would stop any oil from entering the cavity through the bearing. Funny its the new part number bearing too! It can still come in through the slot but I'm hoping that would not be enough to cause an issue but we could always seal the other bearing off if necessary too.

On the HTT Forum is a thread "M8 trans fluid leaking in primary" with parts breakout and recent pics of the bearing housings (earlier pre-2017 35260-06A and current B). The thread parts figure implies a new bearing 11000010 goes in the left hole supporting the trans input shaft, and the older 8907A bearing goes in the right. The 11000010 looks to me to be a shielded bearing versus the open cage of the 8907A in the attached photos of each housing.

I'm no HD expert and what appears to be a sealed or partially sealed left/input shaft bearing may just be a different bearing cage and not really sealed.
Maybe take the cover off and see/take pics of what some have for bearings on that bearing end housing?
The pic below was posted by FSG on the HTT Forum.

Those do not appear to be the proper manuals for a '17 as the picture show a exhaust mount in one view that is no longer there and in another view shows the same main bearing used twice. The parts manual link above clearly calles for two different bearing and give two part numbers.
11000010 is the new part number bearing and 897A is the older style bearing that has been used for several years.

If you look close in your picture it appears to just be a different color plastic retainer in the bearings shown. What I'm looking for is a seal from the inner race to the outer race. HD may not be doing it, but until I get the real part I will never know.
