Just throwing out some thoughts.
This is a very cogent theory. Good food for pondering.

This is what over flowed one morning.

Here is the morning ritual.
"Transferred almost a quart of oil in a short 3,200 miles."

so your saying you ran your trans nearly bone dry, for how long/miles would you guesstimate?

[QUOTE=CR3999;16382281]Just got back from a trip in the mountains. Transferred almost a quart of oil in a short 3,200 miles.

Hey CR, curious what you felt during the last part of the transfer period, hard or noisy shifting, problems finding neutral or shifting as described in the manual due to overfill of the primary.................

I bet we start locking up transmissions and god forbid, go into a skid, HD will be much more transparent and in a hurry to resolve this...............

I lost about 2 oz last night going from the full mark to the half full half empty x marks the spot, this was in 120 miles. Gonna let it go down more then pull the derby and measure transfer.

It just bugs the $*^% of me that every dealer I have talked to has no knowledge of this issue.........or they won't admit it......

700 miles since my 1k service miles and primary is just below the lip. Maybe 1/4" or so.I really dont know where it was after the service but I assume it was somewhere around there. Trans is at the top of the "F" on jiffy stand, ambient temp.

Should have pointed that out, sorry. This is sitting level on my J & S lift. Also, FWIW, I rarely run the thing over 4 grand. And even then its just when I'm running up through the gears.
75 -85 on the highway, yes.. I just enjoy the bottom end torque.

When checking the Primary oil level, it needs to be upright or level, NOT on the jiffy stand. The oil should just touch the bottom of the clutch basket, no more.

The reason I asked is because I thought it looked slightly over-full ???

Correct. You may have been typing as I answered to that point. The bike is level, on my lift. And its just touching the basket. Maybe JUST slightly over a little.

EDIT- To clarify,I first checked the trans on the sidestand, then jacked it up on the lift to be level and checked the primary.

I checked the level every other day. What I should have said I went through almost a quart of oil. I added several oz. every time I checked it. Also sucked out some primary oil.
On that other guys picture with the bike upright, it looks to me the oil in the primary is high.
I change all my own fluids. And change all the fluids while the bike is on the jiffy stand. The primary requires only 30oz of fluid. When I add the fluid its not that high up on the jiffy stand.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if my memory serves me right. In the old days you were suppose to check the tranny while the bike was level.
