Jim's third hand tool
It's been quiet here lately. I started to get my parts and tools together for the 5k service. Items I didn't have on hand:
The only thing related to the rear axle for the 5k service is to check the belt tension, however, I plan on removing the rear wheel and polishing it as it is slightly oxidized, so I bought the tools to do that. Looking for a bare aluminum polish that won't kill the paint on the wheels...
- Oil Filter Drain Funnel (62700199)
- Oil Filter Wrench (94863-10)
- Oil Filter (Black SuperPremium5 - 63731-99A)
- Oil (Syn3, 1-GAL, 62600031)
- Oil Drain Plug O-ring (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
- Belt Tension Gauge (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
- Rear Axle Wrench (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
- Jim's 3rd Hand Axle Locker Tool (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Well, I’ve been hiding in the weeds for a while, but now it’s back to consistent riding season. After 12,800 miles, my rear tire was down to 1/32”, and the front was 2/32”... and that was 99% highway riding! So, the junk OEMs are off and replaced with American Elites! Got the tires from The Shop in Waxahachie for $425 and balanced them with Dyna Beads..

safe travels..the Dunlop AE are good tires..I replaced the OEMs at 10 K miles only because we were heading out on a 2K mile ride and I projected they would be around where yours showed by the time I was back..wanted to switch to AEs at the same time anyway

Well, I made it back safe and sound, just a little frozen! It was in the 90s Friday and by the time we got home that night it was 40! And drizzling!
We headed out Thursday at 4pm and took US287 out of Waxahachie to US67 then US281 down to Marble Falls for the night. Leaving at 9am Friday, we caught US290 over to Luckenbach and Fredericksburg then TX16 down to Medina for the start of the Three Sisters. They say TX16 from Kerrville to Medina is technical, but it was nothing to worry about.
Taking RR337 west from Medina to Leakey then continuing to Camp Wood is a high speed hill climb, lending to some awesome views. A good place to eat is Two Fat Boys BBQ in Camp Wood (“Never trust a skinny cook”). From Camp Wood, turned north onto RR335 up to TX41 east. Just before that intersection is a nice shade tree that seems to be a popular stop. RR335 is probably my favorite section as it winds along the Nueces River, which actually has water, and there are several hill climbs and switchbacks along the way. TX41 is a 75mph, fairly straight highway, nothing exciting, which leads to RR336 south, which for me, was the least exciting bit. It winds along a dry Frio riverbed, right on the edge of the hillside, but it’s just ugly compared to the rest of the route and less technical and more of
an adult roller coaster of uphill-downhill transitions. Ending back at Leakey, we took the fast way back on US83 up to US337 all the way US67 and home on US287 around 12am. 750 miles, 14 hours total ride time.

A few months ago, I started to notice some “grinding” noise down behind the cam cover at my right foot... it’s starting to sound a little more metal-on-metal... might be taking it in to get looked at! Is it normal?
Besides that, I’ve always had a slight pull to the left, but after changing tires, it’s much worse. I didn’t change the tires but the shop has tried everything with the rear wheel alignment but it continues to pull hard left. Any suggestions?
