I have a 17 RGU, As mentioned the sales guy was right... BIG diff is the fairing. The Ultra Limited has 1 do-dad or 2 additional..

 

I have owned 3 Road Glides and 3 Street Glides. All Rushmore models. Not much difference between the two other than cosmetics. I could not tell much of the difference between the wind protection or handling off either one. Comes down to which fairing you like. I prefer the batwing look my self.

 

I'd have to agree. 5 years on my CVO RGU then onto my new Limited was essentially a wash as far a wind protection. When I decided to go with a new M8 my first stop was the RGU. Unfortunately just sitting on it I knew the the bars being up and back was a deal breaker.

Anyone that has strong feelings about what feels "good" with bars will likely favor one over the other. They're very different.

 

I put a few hundred miles on a friends 2013 Road Glide. Didn't like it at all. I never liked the look of them but he was keeping it in my garage and it needed to be ridden. The bars were too high and I couldn't stand the headlight staying straight when I turned the front end...just weird. Just my $.02.

 

That head light thing again, like a RGU or not just the way it is but the head light things is a myth.
2007 RG was my first RG, that was all it took no looking back for me. Not going to disrespect the Limited but the RGU is a far better Touring bike if you run up the miles.
And I do.
2007 RG, 2011 RGU, 2013 RGU, 2016 RGU ,2017 RGU Everyone one of them a great ride every one better than the last.
Some will never get past the idea it has to be a bat wing to be a Harley. I got on one by chance. Had an appointment at the dealer for my other bike . Quick in and out thing.
Out of town rider has a big issue they ask if I minded if they got him in first. Of course I understood . Salesman I know well tossed me the keys to a bike said you and Sue take a good ride. Left mine and got on a blue RG for the first time. We rode about 4 hours. When we got back, wife ask what model is this again. Two weeks latter she pulled the bike fund and purchased me a brand new 2007 RG, she added a tour pack.
It was fathers day. All the work she put into getting it right I was keeping the RG. We have been one the every sense. We have ridden Limited's sense but no desire to go back.

 

It's not a myth. It's science. The fairing is mounted to the frame, therefore the light stays forward when you turn the front end. When the fairing is mounted to said front end and you turn it, the headlight will move. If you like it, that's great, I personally don't like it or the way it looks. It reminds of old jap bikes. Again, just my $.02. I didn't mean to offend.

 

at one of our recent HOG Chapter meetings our parts manager displayed one of those adaptive headlights that adjust with the bike lean..not sure about the twin RG lamps, but the one he showed us was $800.......and just think if/when a rock smashes it..ouch..too rich and risky for my blood

 

I just bought a new bike. I WANTED to love and buy a RGU. After riding both bikes, I bought the Ultra. For me the shark nose did not offer superior wind protection, I really liked the handle bars on the RG, but my hands were in the wind and HD decided not to put heated grips on the RG. I also felt the audio was slightly better on the Ultra due to sitting closer to the front speakers. Both are great bikes. Ride both and then decide.

 

Just bought the 2017 Ultra Limited. My decision between the two was solely based on looks. I like the classic look. Not a fan of the shark nose.

 

The headlight thing..... Yeah my headlight doesn't turn with the bars on my RG. Is it strange, hard to get used to? Funny my headlights on my truck don't move when I turn the steering wheel either. It's never been a problem for me on either one.
