The rear clusters and front dynamic ringz are plug and play, fits just like a stock bulb. You plug them in and just twist the wire up behind them and put lens back on, no heat at all that I can tell. Custom dynamics is a little pricey but they are the brightest ones I have seen and they have a lifetime warranty.

CD sells an in-line module called the Triple Play that allows you to adjust brightness and also set the brake lights to pulse several times or modulate when the brake is applied. It's awesome for wanting cars behind you to notice when you're braking. I'm going to install one on my RGS in short order.
It's a great thing that they're bright when riding solo, but when in a group of 20 bikes, it looks like he's riding the brakes. Now if everyone swapped to CD's--problem solved
