Just completed my bypass over the weekend. Drilled two 5/8" holes in the backplate, added rubber grommets to pass 1/4" ID/ 1/2" OD fuel hoses through to a 1/4" T behind the plate and into a catch can from DK Customs.
Ďoes running a external breather help keeping oil in the engine or does the same amount come out but to a different place?
that's a great question, something I'm curios about..is it possible to get 'backed up', and is there any downside? not clear on if 100% stopping any breathing is detrimental in any way...and it's just a catch can like referred to..does it typically require cleaning, etc.

It's definitely going to require cleaning maybe every 1K or less. Not a big deal, just clean it with brake cleaner and you're good for another run!

Did that on my 15 Limited no power gain little more stinky occasionally and it does requires cleaning very gooey stuff I had little filter hanging on the bottom and I would spray brake cleaner on it often.

I just did something similar to what FurryOne has. Nothing detrimental. I see all positives as none of that is going into intake, valves, cylinders, and top of pistons. I would think maybe a little less than stock configuration of oil comes out as there is no low pressure to pull oil into intake. How often you clean/dump is a function of the amount your bike slobbers and the size of the catch can. I will check after a 1,000 miles and see how much is there. Then that will tell me required frequency for emptying.

My bike must slobber a lot. I put on ~250 miles since I last cleaned out my catch can and the crap came out of the vent holes and sprayed my right side cover, right saddlebag, and exhaust shield. Here's what didn't leak out...
