Preliminary report.

The weather is in the low 70's so not the high 70's where we were before. Rain supposed to start later today into the night and temperature dropping to 50's, so this is it for testing for awhile. Oil pressure at idle after the same ride as before showed a 2 - 3 psi increase. I could never hear the fan come on but a few times, at stop lights, I jumped off quickly and put my hand down behind the fan and could feel it working. A quick look at the data appears we are running cooler and the increase in oil pressure would indicate the same thing. So far so good.

The install of the cooler was straight forward but they had a lot of lock-tite on the mounting bolts on mine, so it was a bitch to get them out. They are torque heads and the one on the rightside of the bike is blocked by a lug on the frame so you need a very short wrench to even get it out. No need to remove anything but the cooler on my Road Glide. With what I've seen so far I would say anyone who rides below 45 MPH for any length of time needs to have one of these installed on a oil cooled M8 bike.

this is great information Steve and appreciate you sharing it with us..I'm sold..although I very rarely find myself "below 45 MPH for any length of time" every Summer on road trips we find ourselves coming across of few of those unexpected Holy $%#@ traffic situations. Would have loved to have had this on my bike last July rolling into Lewiston, ID at 105 degrees and stopped for road construction. I had been soaking my hydration vest all day but my poor engine.....thanks!

Being in Southern Calif. means you get stuck in traffic at one time or another. It's 60 miles of riding just to try and get to any real open areas anymore. A nice ride is up the coast but if the weather is warm enough your going to get caught in traffic along the coast as it's a 2 lane most of the time and lots of people going to the beaches. The test rides I have been doing are little to no traffic at all, but they are in town so the speed limit is 35 -45 mph. Basically, warm the engine up and go 10 miles to the local HD dealership, turn around and come back. None of the testing has been above 80 F as all that weather was gone by the time I started the testing. I cannot image what those oil temperatures would have been. Will this fix it all, I don't know, but its sure going to make it much better that's for sure.

"Will this fix it all, I don't know, but its sure going to make it much better that's for sure."..and that is good enough for me, as any temperatures heading South are heading in the right direction..just another one of those better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it things

New test data with HD Fan assist Oil Cooler, same test ride as before.

Conditions:
Ambient temperature during testing low - mid 70's
In Town riding with little traffic but normal stop lights
Speed limited to posted speed limits (35 - 45 mph)

Results:
Measured Peak Engine temperature = 302 F
Measured Peak Oil Sump temperature = 201 F
Measured Peak Head Oil Return temperature = 240 F

awesome, I'd say it's working as advertised...this is very useful/helpful information to me and it'll actually pay for itself because I can continue to run my preferred HD360 as I always have instead of feeling compelled to run synthetic, and let me not fret over going beyond my ~3000 mile ish OCI's occasionally under certain conditions ..and since my wife has a 2017 Freewheeler when we're on trips together we can both have the same level of confidence...thanks again!

It sure looks much better now, that's for sure, but I have to remind everyone we were running in 5 - 8 degree F cooler weather. I still think it works and is going to be a big help but with winter setting in, it the best test I'm going to get.

nonetheless, it's all relative with the somewhat similar test conditions ...the facts provide compelling evidence that its effectiveness is significant...I'm digging this upgrade, bodes well for a happier engine..kudos

Before Upgrade Results:
Measured Peak Engine temperature = 340 F
Measured Peak Oil Sump temperature = 267 F
Measured Peak Head Oil Return temperature = 290 F

After Upgrade Results:
Measured Peak Engine temperature = 302 F
Measured Peak Oil Sump temperature = 201 F
Measured Peak Head Oil Return temperature = 240 F

I would be very interested to see what these temps are here in Fl in August where it's 98 every afternoon.
