I have a question about the Keys water color. We stayed in Marathan on the gulf side during Christmas and the water color was a crap shade of green. When we went north or south the water color was abeautiful shade of blue.Why?

 

Probably was some dredging going on somewhere. A lot of times when you see that it's because so much sand has been stirred up. I went diving in the Atlantic after the 2004 storms and the water was literally a light shade of brown, couldn't see your hand if it was a foot in front of ya.

The green water on the gulf side has been that way since the summer, it's always a little greener north of Marathon on the gulf due to run off from the Everglades but's it's been really bad the past six months, might be an allgey bloom or just our water managment district screwing up the eco-system.

 

Yea Kimbo SFWMD = South Florida Water Mismanagement District or South Florida's Weapon of Mass Destruction.

 

I'm not sure that's the real source, it might be the new Moore Haven, sewage plant upgrades, I'm sure we can discuss it further on the next ride Or Not [:-]

 

Sorry we are gonna miss you guys on the 25th and 26th. We are going a little earlier. Leaving NC on the 19th with a stop in Daytona and headed on to Key West on the 20th. I am getting pretty excited this is my first road trip on the SG and I cant wait!! We will be headin home from the keys on the 25th. If anybodys gonna be down that way earlier or in Daytona let me know!
