RE: Delray Beach FL Motorcycle Ban
As I mentioned before, I don't have the agenda for the next Commissioners meeting, but I found this information. Apparently there will still be the 90 day study, but the floor will be open to club leaders, and ABATE is meeting this saturday to get organized. Thought I would post for all...
LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD OVER THE PIPES
MEETUP Tuesday @ 6:00 PM
100 NW 1st Avenue Delray Beach, Florida 33444
A meeting has being arranged with ABATE SE CHAPTER legal representatives to work out a plan for all clubs and riding organizations to be heard at the Delray Beach City Commissioners meeting for the second reading of an ordinance past in part 10/16/07. This is an existing "Noise Ordinance" that has been revised to require all motorcycle exhaust systems to have an E.P.A. Approved emblem displayed on the pipes. The fine has also been increased to $200 for anyone in violation of this ordinance.
We would appreciate your participation by having 2 representatives from each club and riding organization present for an emergency strategy meeting.
The meeting will take place 11:00 AM Saturday November 3, at the VFW 243 S. Dixie Hwy. Pompano Bch. 954-943-3552
The meeting should last about 1 hour, please be sure to have your representatives there on time.
Thank You

Yeah, it was exciting to be there, to hear and see the legal system in progress. It has been quite a few years since I went on the class trip to DC, where we got to see actual trials... So this was cool.

The turn-out, however, seemed to be about half of the turn-out of a couple weeks ago! We need to flood the chambers at EACH meeting... Persistance pays off in these things!!! Let's keep up the "pressure"!
One of the major issues in dealing with government is projected image... in this case, OURS! The melodramatic writing of reporters citing "Angry Bikers", "Roared Off", "Bikers rolled into town", "forced city leaders to back down" may make for good 6th grade creative writing, but overall actually HURTS our cause.
We're a group of concerned citizens with a common interest that a city ordinance may affect. We're working with the City of Delray to reach a solution to a situation (limited one) that most of us agree needs to be addressed. We're a viable segment of citizens as consumers and neighbors to Delray Beach.
There is a time to strut our stuff and a time to be "Mainstream"!!!

[sm=confused06.gif]yes it was good to hook up w/Sean and others riders tosee democracy in process. as I fought to stay awake and be attentive to relevant info (we all know of the jib jab that goes on in these meetings) I garnerd hope for our cause. however, I must say that I feel the enevitable will eventually happen which is some form of discrimination against us.[:'(] with that said I agree w/kiltietmon that a show of support in numbers is very relevant to any positive outcome, plus its an excuse to ride and gather for our rights. freedom has a price! stay tuned for the next episode.
