Shane, were you ever in the Air Force? Zweibrucken AB maybe! Fergie

Shane, I was going to use one or the other rim I mentioned on the back. I already have a 21" spoke wheel for the front. As for the stuff in pieces it's a '77 FX frame with a set of cases from another '77 (FL motor). Since I'm piecing things together I'm working on making it roll first before I build the motor. It'll be a swap meet special for sure since parts are easy to come by here in CA. As for my rear wheel, I guess I'll mock it up and see how it all aligns. As for your swingarm, when you say middle shock mount, are you talking about on the swingarm or on the frame? From your picture it almost looks like the swingarm mount is on the underside of the swingarm where I thought stock was on the topside. Yes I have access to a good welder to move the mount, not a problem. Plus I'm not so heavy (or tall hence lowering, plus I like the stance). My wife doesn't ride w/ me any more so I'll be solo; I'll just set the preset accordingly. I picked up a set of stock length Progressive shocks for cheap. As for the motor I suppose it'll be a stocker since I have another newer Glide if I wanted to go faster. Unfortunately I traded the red shovel for a fully decked out toy hauler for the family, kinda miss the ol' scooter. But oh well, got another. Thanks for sharing your info, I hope to have my bike up & running by Christmas. Marv

Hey Shane, I was admiring some details on your bike and was wondering how things worked out for you. I have a 77 FXE frame/basket that I'm slowly piecing together and a friend gave me 2 rims. One looks like it's at least a 4" wide spoke rim with what I think is a the correct dual flange hub. The other is a disc exactly like yours from a late 90's era Dyna Wide Glide. Couple questions, hope you don't mind. I'd like to use the spoke rim but am afraid it might be too wide for my FL fender/and struts. Also I'm concerned about the sprockets lining up. What are your thoughts? I'm not opposed to using the disc wheel on the back (one less set of spokes to clean). What bike did yours come from and was it easy to align/space? Lastly, looks like you flipped your swingarm for a lower stance. Any issues there (other than not being able to use a chain guard)? I didn't see the other side to see how you dealt with the rear brake so I'd be curious to hear how you crossed that bridge.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Hi Sissy, I'm not real knowledgeable, but I've got a couple ideas, 1: It could be that the small bushing that sits on the pin of the shift fork is worn/missing not allowing final to fully engage, 2: The spacer that is installed between the sprocket and final is worn/missing/installed the wrong way allowing fourth to drift in and out of position, the larger machined end should be toward final before seal is installed, or 3: the final shift fork is bent or worn not engaging fourth fully. The only other thing I can think might have happened is when the top was put back on the forks weren't positioned into the right portion of the machined grooves. That's all I've got, let me know how you make out. Oh, is it a ratchet top or a rotary top, not that it makes a lot of difference. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Shane, my name is Sissy and since you seem so knowledgeable about trannys, I was wondering if you knew why a 4 speed shovel tranny, new gears, good working cow pie...in otherwords rebuilt. Keeps jumping out of fourth? Thanks
