40 Knuckle oil pump gear
#2
--sorry I have been under the weather for a week or so
the oil comes from behind the gear not out at the end cap end - so its in the gear groove --- its not out on the gear
in a race car with ho end ignition they use that concept But its called A spark scatter groove
Harleys oil pump is not connected to the distributor - but it is connected through the gearing drives of both the camshaft / flywheels and the oil pump -- but Indian is directly connected and they use that as well on all the gears
what happens is the coil out put at rpm is so intense the energy creates sparks in the pump gears to the pump its self - and that becomes very small crumbs of steel ***** floating in between the gears and the pump body causing scratches
they dropped it in the shovel pumps but S&S picked it back up again because its a real issue and all the pumps have the groove
