New electrical problem

i've got a electronic ignition, and i can confirm its working because timing led works. plugs are gapped at .35. well i guess i'm going to have to make me a friend and do the dark test. but there was oil i there when i opened up the cover would that confuse the electronic ignition?
What i have heard: you have to be very careful to not wreck the soft aluminum mating surface; the seal gets completely wrecked as it comes out; oil the new one so it goes in more easily; be sure it goes in facing the correct way; tap it in using an appropriate size socket.
I do not know what would be the effect, if any, of oil on the ignition unit. It is possible for the unit to fail but the timing LED still work. But again, that may not be the problem.
I'll send you a PM with some additional info.
What brand is the ignition? Typical plug gap for electriconic ignition is 040. But this would not be the problem.
