+1 on the Accel. I put in a new Accel reg in my '77 XLCR back in '82 and I replaced it again in '96 or so and that one is still going strong. My reg is behind my cafe fairing and it is a PITA to get off so I remember when I have to replace that unit. Hey, good luck with your next reg and ride safe out there!

If you put solid state regulator to bike what had mechanical you need to put diode in serial with gen-light..it's handy also with mechanical regulator, prevent some damages... Factory put it in system when it releases own solidstate regulator.

What company made your 2 bad-outta-the-box regulators? I've never gotten a bad one from Accel.
they're Drag Specialty Chinese crap

[quote=47Harley;6828098]I run a mechanical on my '77 XLCH off of a '69 VW Beetle it's a direct bolt on. They only cost $30 and most local part stores stock them so I don't have to wait. Been running the same one for 3 years now and only cleaned the contact poits once.[/quote
