Default Tires and Wheels:

This is new territory for me. I'm not a tire / wheel kind of guy. Tires get worn, I replace 'em. I'm not much for making my rims look shiny, either.

But it's about time I changed the tires on my '83 sporty, and the front wheel has a ding on the edge of the rim. I've pretty much already decided to go with direct replacements for the tires from Dunlop vs. what I've got on there now (looks like D401's or something).

But if I want to replace that front wheel, where do I start looking? Seems like anything I type into google yields "CUSTOM WHEELS AND RIMS!" - and I just don't care for custom rims. I want cheap, durable, and direct replacement (looking halfway decent is a nice bonus if possible).

Sure would be a shame to get new tires mounted, and then have to take that front tire off again another month down the road to be re-mounted.

Thanks all.

Surprisingly, I think I've got 60 spoke classic aluminum right now. Ebay is going to have to do it for me.

Also, found that Bridgestone's run about half as expensive as the Dunlops through bikebandit. Unless somebody has a terrible horror story to share about bridgestone tires, think I'm going to go that route instead.

Was quoted circa $430 for a set of d401's, including full labor (removing / installing tires, mounting, etc.) - my wallet immediately gave me a dirty look. I'll remove the rims myself, pick up the cheaper tires, and get 'em mounted for twenty bucks each. Should bring me down from 430 to under $200 - much better.

I've been using Bridgestone Spitfires for 6 years. Good tires.
