I was referring specifically to the speedometer. The tachs that i have seen run off either the EI or the coil.

I understood you, but thanks for the clarification. And suggestions on a small digital tach that runs of the coil? In the 150 dollar range. Thanks.

I believe these are quite common. Any catalog company such as J&P Cycles. When i wanted one some years ago i went to a local motorcycle shop - they got one out of a catalog.

Kind of a kludge, IMO, but some use GPS for a speedo.

Not to impugn your reputation Mick, but to add to your already immense knowledge base

Department: General

Subject: digital senders

Most of the distributors catalogs have the sensor you need. you may need to get
your signal from the sprocket if you do not have a place for the sensor to mount
in your transmission. There is also a conversion unit to hook up to your cable
drive and it will convert it to a digital signal.

Sincerely,
Wire Plus, Inc.

Please, can you be more specific? I would like to see one of these sensors, especially one that can pick up a signal from the sprocket. Do you have a web site reference for one of these? or a catalog reference?

The lady I talked to on the phone from Dakota digital told me i should try part 730-522. It's called an inductive speed sensor, and what it does is counts the teeth on either the transmission sprocket or the rear sprocket. The other thing she told me to use was a cable drive sender for my speedo, part number 381-736. Both of these can be found in the j and p catalog. Hope this helps.
