transmisson woes
have a 73 sporty, no idea how long it sat, anyhow, when i pull the shift lever up by hand ,it seems ,not to stop at top of ratchet, but goes all the way to high gear, now if i only pull up to the next gear, i can feel the gear position, when i push down as if to down shift, i can fell the correct number of gear positions, from sitting, could something be all gunked up and how can i wash this out, or is there a transmission pull in my forcast?

First is to ensure that there is the correct fluid and quantity in the primary. Use the HD Formula+, and put in either 24 oz or until it drips out of the overflow hole.
Second is to ensure that the clutch is correctly adjusted. The procedure is in the factory manual. Note that it is not the same as on many other bikes - it is not adjusted at the handlebar.
These done?
