has anybody heard of running a 44 tooth front drive sprocket? with stock rear? (48-51) GUY HAS A 1973 XLH AND MADE MODIFICATIONS TO FIT. SAYS HAVING TALLER RATIO ALLOWS HIM TO RUN 65-70 AT LOWER RPMS ALL DAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. ALSO STATES THAT HE HAS PLENTY OFF THE LINE. CAN THIS BE TRUE? ISNT 44TEETH DOUBLE WHAT IT SHOULD BE? AND POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS TO THE DRIVE TRAIN?

Probably not. Are you sure he wasn't confused and really has a 24?

Probably a 24. Myself and many others have run 23 front 51 rear, and this works very well. I have heard of 23/49 as well. And 24, front but i do not know what it would well with.
