Mikuni parts availability update......
Well guys, I have finally taken some time to look at the Sudco catalog in a serious way for the first time.
I found the 1-800 number, and their 'Tech' phone number which is not 1-800.
This catalog is well over 600 pages and covers all of the different carbs and parts for carbs that Sudco sells.
I am almost now convinced that someone will be able to order almost any part that they may need for a VM38 Mikuni carb from Sudco, or one of their dealers.
Two days ago I was of just the opposite opinion. I am still searching for single carb gaskets or some kind of kit without results, but it is like a kid looking at a huge pile of horse s**t, knowing there just has to be a pony in there somewhere!
I found this little gem on page 124. It says the item is a 'NEW' one. Yep, the elusive 90° elbow that a VM38 must have to be used on a Sportster.
So I think those of you out there holding off on getting a Mikuni may want to go ahead and commit to the purchase because it seems like you can get the needed parts for it. You just have to do a lot of digging to find them. That catalog is a good place to start....... pg

I actually posted this info in the other thread but I'll post it here as well. Mainly the first paragraph, the other stuff you know now.
Sudco does offer all replacement parts for the VM38. I had to order quite a few parts from them. Here's the deal with them. They only take orders over the phone and orders must be at least $25. I suggest you order two of every thing just so you have it on the shelf.
90 degree elbow is part number 007-731
Parts for the VM-38 start on page 117 in their catalog which you can get from here

Heres another place that has mikuni parts. Motorcyclecarbs.com

The link will get you straight to the parts listing for the VM38. I also found the 90 degree elbow here.
Done my share of pushing too. Most recently for 2 1/2 miles

Yo Piniongear,
Take a look at this link.

Is this the guy I would want to put on my 74 XLH? With the elbow. I picked up a Bendix to rebuild to replace an S&S, to finicky for me, but now I am considering the Mikuni.
Price is right. Much cheaper than other sites I have found.
Thanks,
John F.

In addition to the carb you will need to get an adapter that connects the carb to your existing manifold.
The other item needed is the 90° elbow, as you say.
That p/n is 007-731.
A note regarding the elbow:
When I bought mine back in 1974 the carb came as a Jerry Branch Flowmetrics kit and included the throttle cable and elbow connected to the carb slide.
I noticed later that the lead barrel sitting in the slide was far to large in diameter to remove the cable from the slide and pull the cable barrel through the elbow. To this day I have never been able to separate the cable from the elbow.
Today the elbow is sold as a separate item, so there must have been some provision made along the way to be able to put a cable through the elbow. (Smaller barrel or larger diameter elbow?) Just thought I would mention it.
You will really like the Mikuni carb I believe. My Mikuni is now 35 years old and has not even required a single gasket, part or basic service in all that time........... pg
